What Happened in Season 2?
Season 2 of The Wheel of Time dramatically expanded the world as our heroes faced separate journeys before reuniting in Falme. Rand hid in Cairhien while struggling with his identity as the Dragon Reborn. Egwene and Nynaeve trained at the White Tower until Liandrin betrayed them to the Seanchan, with Egwene enduring brutal captivity as a damane. Perrin embraced his wolfbrother abilities alongside Aiel companions. Moiraine, believed stilled, discovered she was actually shielded by Ishamael, while Mat confronted dark visions of his past lives.
The season culminated in the Battle of Falme, where Rand proclaimed himself as the Dragon Reborn by raising a fiery banner in the sky after defeating Ishamael. Mat blew the Horn of Valere, summoning Heroes from beyond the grave, while Perrin embraced violence to avenge his wolf companion. The final revelation that all the Forsaken had been freed set the stage for even greater threats in Season 3.

Finn brilliantly captures Mat’s quick wit and hidden depths, making his humor feel like a shield and a natural part of his character. Kae Alexander as Min Farshaw
The reluctant seer whose visions reveal fragments of fate, Min has been dragged into events far beyond her control. Season 1 introduces her gift for seeing images around people that foretell their futures, while Season 2 expands her role as she escapes the Tower with Mat and becomes entangled in Ishamael’s schemes. Natasha O’Keeffe as Lanfear

Liandrin, the Red Ajah Sister whose true loyalties lie in shadow, has been a compelling antagonist since Season 1. Initially presented as merely a harsh Aes Sedai with a hatred of male channelers, Season 2 reveals her darker connections and manipulative depths as she betrays Nynaeve and Egwene to the Seanchan. Fleetwood excels at making Liandrin’s cruelty feel purposeful rather than cartoonish, creating a villain with understandable motivations despite her reprehensible actions. In Season 3, Liandrin faces scrutiny within the Tower as suspicions grow about her true allegiance.
Priyanka Bose as Alanna Mosvani
The Green Ajah Sister whose warmth masks formidable resolve, Alanna has grown from a secondary character to an increasingly important player. Season 1 introduces her tracking Logain with other Aes Sedai, while Season 2 expands her role as she supports Moiraine and Lan. Bose brings a vibrant energy to Alanna, making her passionate nature and combat focus distinctive from any other Aes Sedai we’ve met. In Season 3, Alanna steps up in the aftermath of tragedy, making strategic choices that prove her prowess as a member of the Battle Ajah.
Honorable Others
The Wheel of Time Season 3 also welcomes back many other beloved characters whose contributions to the story remain vital: Hammed Animashaun as the loyal Ogier scholar Loial, Sophie Okonedo as the powerful Amyrlin Seat Siuan Sanche, Taylor Napier as Alanna’s steadfast Warder Maksim, and Jennifer Cheon Garcia as the composed Keeper of the Chronicles Leane Sharif.
The Children of the Light remain a force to be reckoned with as Jay Duffy returns as the vengeful Dain Bornhald and Abdul Salis as the dangerous Questioner, Eamon Valda. Johann Myers returns as the despicable Darkfriend, Padan Fain. We also see Laia Costa as the spider-like Forsaken Moghedien, Alexandre Willaume as the gleeman Thom Merrilin, and Katie Brayben as the ancient Aes Sedai Latra Posae Decume.
The Two Rivers’ connections deepen with Lolita Chakrabarti as Egwene’s mother, Marin al’Vere, and Juliet Howland as Mat’s mother, Natti Cauthon. Other returning faces include Joelle as the Gray Ajah member Joiya Byir, Nila Aalia as the Brown Sister Adeleas Mathwin, Rachel Denning as Nyomi, Aiel Maidens of the Spear Ragga Ragnars as Bain, and Maja Simonsen as Chiad.
New to the Wheel in Season 3
Season 3 introduces an exciting array of new characters who create their own whirlpools in the Pattern. Their actions have far-reaching consequences for the story:
The Royal Court of Andor
- Olivia Williams as Queen Morgase Trakand – The award-winning actress (The Crown, The Sixth Sense) portrays Andor’s respected ruler. Rather than inheriting her throne, Morgase won it through political savvy and determination, becoming one of Andor’s most beloved queens while fiercely protecting her daughter from the difficulties she endured.
- Luke Fetherston as Gawyn Trakand – The Doctor Who and Big Mood actor plays Elayne’s brother Galad, a royal prince of Andor known for his skill with a blade, handsome features, and protective nature toward his sister.
- Callum Kerr as Galad Trakand – Known for his roles in Hollyoaks and Monarch, Kerr portrays Elayne and Gawyn’s older brother. Galad’s unflinching moral code isn’t nearly as much of a compliment as it might seem. Perhaps to everyone’s relief, and despite being the firstborn, he isn’t the heir to the throne in Andor’s matriarchal society.
- Nuno Lopes as Lord Gaebril – The award-winning Portuguese actor (White Lines, The New Look) plays Queen Morgase’s mysterious consort. As both lover and adviser, he wields significant influence.
- Shohreh Aghdashloo as Elaida do Avriny a’Roihan – The Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actress brings gravitas to Morgase’s Aes Sedai advisor, a Red Sister known for her ruthless efficiency. With a long history connecting her to Siuan, Elaida’s return to the White Tower promises political intrigue and personal vendettas.
The Aiel
- Nukâka Coster-Waldau as Bair – The Danish-Greenlandic actress portrays the eldest and most respected Wise One of the Taardad Aiel, whose authority surpasses even the Clan Chief’s. Beyond her ability to channel, she possesses even more mysterious powers.
- Salóme Gunnarsdóttir as Melaine – Known for The Lazarus Project and Justice League, Gunnarsdóttir plays a Wise One of the Taardad Aiel who, despite not channeling, wields a different kind of mystical ability.
- Björn Landberg as Rhuarc – The German actor and voice artist portrays the respected Clan Chief of the Taardad Aiel. Having survived the trials of Rhuidean, he’s among the few Aiel who know the secrets hidden in the fog but is forbidden from speaking of them.
- Synnøve Macody Lund as Melindhra – The Norwegian actress (Ragnarok, Saw X) plays a Malkieri survivor taken in and raised by the Taardad Aiel, adding a cross-cultural element to the Aiel storylines.
The Two Rivers
- Isabella Bucceri as Faile Bashere – The Australian newcomer portrays a Saldaean “Hunter of the Horn” whose search for the legendary artifact has led her to the Two Rivers, where her path crosses with our heroes in unexpected ways.
Notable Others
Season 3 introduces even more new faces whose roles in the Pattern are just beginning to unfold: Olivia Popica as Jeaine Caide and Mi Hae Lee as Chesmal Emry, two Aes Sedai with mysterious connections to Liandrin; Diêm Camille as Tsutama Rath and Clare Dunne as Galina Casban, formidable Red Ajah Sitters; Cameron Jack as Sammael, another of the dangerous Forsaken now free to pursue their dark ambitions; Michael Lindall as Lord Luc, who leads Hunters of the Horn arriving in the Two Rivers; from the Shaido clan of the Aiel, Set Sjöstrand as the warrior Couladin and Natasha Culzac as Sevanna, a woman whose ambition and influence make her a powerful force within her clan.

Season 3 continues to push the boundaries of fantasy television with its ambitious scope and production values. Filming took place across Europe, including Czechia and Slovenia, with significant portions shot in South Africa to capture the stark beauty of the Aiel Waste.
The production team’s dedication to authenticity shines through in the meticulously crafted sets and costumes (Sharon Gilham, we salute you!) that bring Robert Jordan’s world to life. From the harsh landscapes of the Three-Fold Land to the opulent chambers of the royal palace in Caemlyn, each location feels fully realized and integral to the story. The VFX team also surpasses itself this season!
